Cool off at Eureka Springs Lake Leatherwood

What better of a time than to visit Lake Leatherwood, Eureka Springs magical lake. Lake Leatherwood is a 1600 acre Nature Park located just west of Eureka Springs on Highway 62. Built under WPA in the 1940s, Lake Leatherwood was constructed with thousands of hours of manual labor, steam shovels and cranes. The limestone blocks were quarried from the same property, and together they make up the largest limestone boulder dam in the world. Standing on the causeway, elevated above the dam, it's an awesome sight to watch the lake water flow over the top of the limestone boulder dam like a giant waterfall. Lake Leatherwood Park sports some 15 miles of Nature Trails, for hiking or mountain biking, with special stops along the way. The park has been maintained in it's original natural state, not allowing motor vehicles access to the lake except to launch a boat, and is maintained as a no-wake lake. If you are looking for a place to picnic, hike, bike, paddle a canoe, take in a beautiful sunset, or view a most rare dam, Leatherwood will make a great day trip for you. Lake Leatherwood is located approximately 5 minutes west of Eureka Springs city limits on Highway 62W.Plan to visit the Angel at Rose Hall,a Eureka Springs Bed and Breakfast and Eureka SpringsWedding Chapel, plan your Eureka Springs vacation now,the Angel at Rose Hall is the best place for Eureka Springs lodging and Eureka Springs Weddings.
