Lions, and tigers, and bears – oh, my!! The Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge here in Eureka Springs Arkansas celebrates it 20th Anniversary this April 19, 2012. Twwnty years of saving animals that no one would accept.  True animal hero's in my mind, the refuge exists on donations from their admissions fee. It large cats can consume over 20 pounds of chicken each day.
Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, nestled in the beautiful Ozark Mountains, will bring visitors face to face with all three varieties of these magical creatures. Located 7 miles south of historic Eureka Springs, Arkansas, an enchanting Victorian village with unique homes, boutiques, and restaurants, a trip to Turpentine Creek is a must-see destination. Upon entering the main reception area at the USDA regulated Big Cat rescue facility, guests are greeted by friendly staff and the strikingly colored Blue & Gold Macaw, Cecil, who usually greets new comers with a cheery “Hello!” in his best parrot voice. Part of the Turpentine Creek family since its beginning, Cecil thinks he is the official meet-n-greet ambassador and he never fails to charm staff and visitors alike.
Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, located 7 miles south of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, on Scenic Highway 23, will celebrate with Goober, their 24 year Rhesus Maque monkey, as he steps into a brand new enclosure. The feisty monkey has been a part of the Turpentine Creek family since the beginning and is a favorite for many return visitors to the Refuge. His new enclosure is approximately 180 square feet, with a variety of benches, hammocks, and toys for the energetic primate to explore and play with.
