“Cats & Dogs” will be reigning at Zarks during its 13th Annual Group Invitational Theme Show on Saturday, May 14, the second weekend of the 2011 May Festival of the Arts. Over 30 area artists were invited to interpret this year’s theme in their own original style and in their choice of medium/s, the only limitations being the size and scope of their imaginations.
The artists bring their own distinctive and familiar style to the project but they have the opportunity and are encouraged to explore other techniques, subject matter and materials than they normally use in their work. The entries are always fascinating, amusing, fanciful, witty, and sometimes soul-stirring and provocative but, most of all, very original.
Some of the artists participating this year are Cynthia Dupps, Lyla Allison, Michael Schwade, Nancy Paddock, Judy-Lee & Sonny Carpenter, Jack Clancy, Jessica & John Cummings, Holly Ertel, Jeff & Judy Goodwin, Eleanor Lux, David Pettit, John Rhinehart, Zeek Taylor, Sarah & Terry Russell, Gary Eagan and many more. The “Cats & Dogs” will be on display all day Saturday and everyone is invited to come by and cast their vote for the “People’s Choice Award.” The winner will be announced that evening at the artists’ reception from 6 P.M. until 9 P.M.
Saturday, May 21, the gallery will host Shea Yetta and her collection of jewelry fashioned from scraps and fragments of objects left behind by Hurricane Katrina. She calls this work “Soul, Therapy, Love, Passion and Sorrow - Katrina’s Legacy”. Shea will be in the gallery from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. and will be honored at a reception that evening from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M.
The final Saturday in May, the 28th, will find Randy Wright in the gallery with her new group of original jewelry designs, “Flowing Lines”. She casts her pieces in sterling silver and then embellishes them with gemstones. Randy will be in the gallery from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. and that evening at a reception from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M.
