Celebrated in Mid Evil Europe. Brought to New Orleans by Jean-Baptise Le Moyne in the 1730's. The first parade / procession of maskers on horse back and carriage was held in the late 1830's. Later the "Krewe" was formed and a group of businessman invented the king of the Carnival. They also introduced the use of purple, green and gold as the official Mardi Gras colors.

Eureka Springs is no different. If you have been following this blog, the King and Queen of the Parade and their Royal Court have been selected. January 8th the Kick off party was launched and the King and Queen where selected. The next date to place on your calender is February 5, 2011, the Christening of the Floats. This event is to be held at the Rowdy Beaver Restaurant and Tavern.
Eureka Spring's Mardi Gras has garnered the attention of many and this years event proved to be bigger than last years. Keep you eyes open for the"Taste of New Orleans Day" Cafe au Lait and Beignets. So "let the good times roll." Laissez les bon temps rouler!
