A one-day training session on the fundamentals of backpacking will be given at Hobbs State Park – Conservation Area Saturday May 15 from 10 AM until 3 PM. This basic training is for all age groups. Examples of topics to be covered are: The joys of back country hiking and camping, how to pack and carry needed supplies and equipment, how to build a fire and cook meals, safety and Leave No Trace Ethics. This will be the first such course at Hobbs. Cost: $25/person, be sure to bring a sack lunch. Registration Deadline is May 14.
Following this one-day training:
Adult participants 18 years and older will be invited to go on a real overnight primitive-camping trip with a park staff member May 22nd and 23rd. Registration Deadline is May 19.
Parents and their 12 years and older children will be invited to go on a real overnight primitive-camping trip on June 5th and 6th. Registration Deadline is June 2.
Both camping trips will be on Pigeon Roost Trail. Camp sites are overlooking Beaver Lake, four miles by trail from the trailhead.
Cost for overnight camping trip: $50/person including food.
